While reading my Bible the other day I decided to do some research for attributes of the law by searching for 'law of'. Apart from the 'law of God' and the 'law of Moses' there were four main things the Bible spoke of. They are:-
Firstly we will look at these, then see what else the Bible has attributed this same attribute to by searching for:-
"The law of truth was in his mouth, and iniquity was not found in his lips: he walked with me in peace and equity, and did turn many away from iniquity." Malachi 2:6.
God's law is a law of truth for His law is a revelation of His character and part of His character is absolute truth. God cannot lie (Titus 1:2) and His word is truth from the beginning (Psalm 119:160). Not only this but in Psalms 119:142 we read, "thy law is the truth."
So God's law is truth, but what else has this same attribute - 'of truth.'
Men Of Truth:-
"Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:" Exodus 18:21.
God Of Truth:-
"He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he." Deuteronomy 32:4.
"Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O LORD God of truth." Psalm 31:5.
"That he who blesseth himself in the earth shall bless himself in the God of truth; and he that sweareth in the earth shall swear by the God of truth; because the former troubles are forgotten, and because they are hid from mine eyes." Isaiah 65:16.
Way Of Truth:-
"I have chosen the way of truth: thy judgments have I laid before me." Psalm 119:30.
"And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of." 2 Peter 2:2.
Word/s Of Truth:-
"And take not the word of truth utterly out of my mouth; for I have hoped in thy judgments." Psalm 119:43.
"That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?" Proverbs 22:21.
"The preacher sought to find out acceptable words: and that which was written was upright, even words of truth." Ecclesiastes 12:10.
"But he said, I am not mad, most noble Festus; but speak forth the words of truth and soberness." Acts 26:25.
"By the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armour of righteousness on the right hand and on the left," 2 Corinthians 6:7.
"In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise," Ephesians 1:13.
"Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." 2 Timothy 2:15.
"Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures." James 1:8.
Lip Of Truth:-
"The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment." Proverbs 12:19.
Scripture Of Truth:-
"But I will show thee that which is noted in the scripture of truth: and there is none that holdeth with me in these things, but Michael your prince." Daniel 10:21.
City Of Truth:-
"Thus saith the LORD; I am returned unto Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and Jerusalem shall be called a city of truth; and the mountain of the LORD of hosts the holy mountain." Zechariah 8:3.
Judgment Of Truth:-
"These are the things that ye shall do; Speak ye every man the truth to his neighbour; execute the judgment of truth and peace in your gates:" Zechariah 8:16.
Spirit Of Truth:-
"Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you." John 14:17.
"But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:" John 15:26.
"Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come." John 16:13.
"We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error." 1 John 4:6.
"Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith." Romans 3:27.
How are we saved? "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:" Ephesians 2:8. Martin Luther brought to the forefront the fact that the just shall live by faith alone (Romans 1:17), but faith without works is dead (James 2:14 - 26). The great faith chapter of Hebrews 11 talks about the old patriarchs doing things in obedience to God's commands by faith. Even Jesus told us that if we love Him we will keep His commandments (John 14:15), and to keep His commandments means we must do some thing.
Now let us turn our attention to other things in the Bible that have the attribute - 'of faith.'
Man Full Of Faith:-
"And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:" Acts 6:5.
"For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord. Then departed Barnabas to Tarsus, for to seek Saul:" Acts 11:24, 25.
Door Of Faith:-
"And when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all that God had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles." Acts 14:27.
Righteousness Of Faith:-
"For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith." Romans 4:13.
"What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, which followed not after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith." Romans 9:30.
"But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:)" Romans 10:6.
Word/s Of Faith:-
"But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;" Romans 10:8.
"If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained." 1 Timothy 4:6.
Obedience Of Faith:-
"But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:" Romans 16:26.
Spirit Of Faith:-
"We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;" 2 Corinthians 4:13.
Household Of Faith:-
"As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith." Galatians 6:10.
Shield Of Faith:-
"Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked." Ephesians 6:16.
Joy Of Faith:-
"And having this confidence, I know that I shall abide and continue with you all for your furtherance and joy of faith; " Philippians 1:25.
Work Of Faith:-
"Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father;" 1 Thessalonians 1:3.
"Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power:" 2 Thessalonians 1:11.
Breastplate Of Faith:-
"But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation." 1 Thessalonians 5:8.
Good Fight Of Faith:-
"Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses." 1 Timothy 6:12.
Prayer Of Faith:-
"And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him." James 5:15.
"But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness." Romans 9:31.
God's law is morally upright and just, or simply put - righteous. Once again we can see God's character reflected in His law, for He is just and righteous (Ezra 9:15; Daniel 9:14; Romans 1:17; Deuteronomy 32:4.), therefore His righteousness is transcribed in His law. Furthermore Paul tells us that God's law is holy, just and good (Romans 7:12).
What else can we find in Scripture that has the attribute - 'of righteousness.'
Sacrifices Of Righteousness:-
"They shall call the people unto the mountain; there they shall offer sacrifices of righteousness: for they shall suck of the abundance of the seas, and of treasures hid in the sand." Deuteronomy 33:19.
"Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the LORD." Psalm 4:5.
"Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar." Psalm 51:19.
Paths Of Righteousness:-
"He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake." Psalm 23:3.
Gates Of Righteousness:-
"Open to me the gates of righteousness: I will go into them, and I will praise the LORD:" Psalm 118:19.
Way Of Righteousness:-
"I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment:" Proverbs 8:20.
"In the way of righteousness is life; and in the pathway thereof there is no death. " Proverbs 12:28.
"The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness." Proverbs 16:31.
"For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him." Matthew 21:32.
"For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them." 2 Peter 2:21.
Place Of Righteousness:-
"And moreover I saw under the sun the place of judgment, that wickedness was there; and the place of righteousness, that iniquity was there." Ecclesiastes 3:16.
City Of Righteousness:-
"And I will restore thy judges as at the first, and thy counsellors as at the beginning: afterward thou shalt be called, The city of righteousness, the faithful city." Isaiah 1:26.
Work And Effect Of Righteousness:-
"And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever." Isaiah 32:17.
Trees Of Righteousness:-
"To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified." Isaiah 61:3.
Robe Of Righteousness:-
"I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels." Isaiah 61:10.
Branch Of Righteousness:-
"In those days, and at that time, will I cause the Branch of righteousness to grow up unto David; and he shall execute judgment and righteousness in the land." Jeremiah 33:15.
Fruit/s Of Righteousness:-
"Shall horses run upon the rock? will one plow there]with oxen? for ye have turned judgment into gall, and the fruit of righteousness into hemlock:" Amos 6:12.
"Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God." Philippians 1:11.
"Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby." Hebrews 12:11.
"And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace." James 3:18.
Sun Of Righteousness:-
"But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall." Malachi 4:2.
Gift Of Righteousness:-
"For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)" Romans 5:17.
Instruments Of Righteousness:-
"Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God." Romans 6:13.
Servants Of Righteousness:-
"Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness." Romans 6:18.
Ministration Of Righteousness:-
"For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory." 2 Corinthians 3:9.
Armour Of Righteousness:-
"By the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armour of righteousness on the right hand and on the left," 2 Corinthians 6:7.
Ministers Of Righteousness:-
"Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works." 2 Corinthians 11:15.
Hope Of Righteousness:-
"For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith." Galatians 5:5.
Breastplate Of Righteousness:-
"Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;" Ephesians 6:14.
Crown Of Righteousness:-
"Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing." 2 Timothy 4:8.
Works Of Righteousness:-
"Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;" Titus 3:5.
Sceptre Of Righteousness:-
"But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom." Hebrews 1:8.
Word Of Righteousness:-
"For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe." Hebrews 5:13.
King Of Righteousness:-
"To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;" Hebrews 7:2.
Preacher Of Righteousness:-
"And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;" 2 Peter 2:5.
"But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. . . . So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty." James 1:25; 2:12.
God's perfect law of liberty sets us free from sin. No only this, but if we love Him and follow His commands we will one day receive the gift of eternal life free from sin and all that is associated with it - such as sickness, pain, crying, disease, and death. To be free from all these things will most certainly bring liberty - liberty to study, learn, travel, and reign with Christ for the ceaseless ages of eternity.
In the whole of Scripture there is only one other text that has reference to the attribute - 'of liberty.'
"But if he give a gift of his inheritance to one of his servants, then it shall be his to the year of liberty; after it shall return to the prince: but his inheritance shall be his sons' for them." Ezekiel 46:17.
I hope that through reading this study you have gained a much fuller knowledge of the attributes of God's wonderful law of truth, faith, righteousness, and liberty and the other things that Scripture use the same attributes for.
