Many people believe that hell is where Satan reigns his fiendish fellows and they torture the bad people who end down there for the rest of eternity.
The Bible however, tells is quite differently. David tells us in Psalms 139:8 :-
"Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from they presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou are there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there."
God in hell?
The beloved disciple, John, tells us more:-
"And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them; and they were jedged every man according to their works. . . . And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire." Revelation 20:13, 15.
So there is a lake of fire, but listen to what the text between these two verses says :-
"And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death." Revelation 20:14.
This lake of fire is upon this earth, and although it will burn everything, both root and branch (Malachi 4:1) until there is nothing left except ashes under our feet (Malachi 4:3), the fire will not burn for eternity. For John tells us after he sees this lake of fire that :-
"And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea." Revelation 21:1.
After God destroys all sin and wickedness, death, hell and Satan in the lake of fire, He then creates a new heaven and earth for the redeemed to live in. What a compassionate, loving, merciful God.
